I absolutely love your posts, wholeheartedly agree with the previous poster that it’s the perfect antidote to the general chaos across the globe. I made Substack my happy place, where I could come to read the writing of the people who help to create a cosy world seen less and less of late. As the global political situation has worsened, I’ve ended up following more political people here, and your words pull me back to the world closer to home, where we focus on the world directly around us, and the humans and animals we love. I so look forward to your posts; thank you.

Lovely post Gareth. Interesting to find out what you do for a living (I did a Social Policy degree at Leeds Uni many moons ago, 1993 - 6, & had plans to do a PhD in Housing & deprivation but lack of funding & pregnancy meant plans went out the window)!

When we lived near Holmfirth & had a huge Victorian Grain Mill to fill, we used to love going round all the antique/vintage shops in Sheffield. Funny to think our paths may have crossed & now we too are up in rural 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Thank you for sharing - our paths certainly may have crossed. Sounds like we'd have plenty to natter about over coffee!

Hello Gareth, glad to know it's a creepie, thanks.

Phew! The electricity is back. Luckily for your readers who are impatient to follow the adventures of the boys in Scotland.

Maybe we should consider installing a wind turbine to be self-sufficient in electricity! Thank you for taking us on a stroll through your world and see you next time. 🙋🏻‍♂️

I was interested in your 'Creepie' as I volunteer at a museum in Aberdeenshire and we have just catalogued one - also green. We called it a milking stool as it had been placed in our dairy display. So thank you for that information about possible origins and a wonderful name! Keep posting despite the technical interruptions.

Thank you Naomi and glad it was useful. I was kindly pointed in the right direction by Laurie Goodlad (https://shetlandwithlaurie.com/) on Instagram - certainly might be worth following her too!

I love the antique centres at Abernyte and Rait! I got a lovely large old pine coffee table for my 40th birthday from Rait and it still has pride of place in the centre of our living room. It has 26 years of scratches and marks added to it now from various grandsons playing on it plus wine marks and it just adds to the story of it!

They're brilliant aren't they? It was our first time to Rait, and we loved it. The restaurant too! I love the story of your pine table. Lots of our furniture is old/second-hand and I just love it - things don't stay 'box fresh' here long, so might as buy things with a story or two to already tell us!

What a breath of fresh air your post brings Gareth - something which lifts the spirits. I just love your writing.

I'm alright with a power cut as long as there is enough light to read by. In fact, I have now bought a camping lantern fir the occasion.

I'm pleased you are beginning to feel more confident with public speaking. You show those academics!

Going for dog walks in your beautiful surroundings is the best tonic at the end of a busy working day.

That's so funny you not being able to part with your purchases which you intended to sell!

I love your wee creepie.

I wanted to ho to Yard97 when we were up last September, but ran out of time.

I hope you both enjoyed your walk with the boys and enjoy your roast. xx

Oh I just love Helen Freestons first sentence. She is so correct....so correct! I've said it before Gareth, I really do love your writing style so I'm sure when the listeners of all your research work and presentations must cock their ears and really take it all in. Keepers will continue to inspire you both to find wonderful things to fill and surround it because it's clear you both love it so much. So have a wonderful week and I hope the power stays on.

Love this .

Maybe the word creepie came from the byre where the cows stayed as the bit where they were tied up was call

The creep so if they were milked there perhaps the name came from it

Just spotted The Art of Hutting has found a new home on the wee creepie. I was lucky enough to meet both Peter and Coinneoch at a book signing in Stewarton for the latest Hebridean Baker book, so had to buy both books. Hutting has always been a dream and will probably remain so (two 70 something gay girls build a remotely located rustic form of camping - nah) so this book is a relaxing and dreamy read. Will there be a Keeper's Hut built in the near future?

Never say never - it could well become a reality - who knows! And as for a Keeper's Hut - well, I rather like the idea. It could be a little studio and somewhere to escape when I just need a cuppa in peace!

This really is the perfect antidote to all the crap going on in the world right now. I love your style. It’s especially good for those of us on a minuscule budget and I think it looks so welcoming. Thank you.
