About me.
I’m Gareth, and ‘From Keeper’s Cottage’ is my creative outlet for journalling life in the Scottish Highlands.
In 2022 we left Derbyshire and moved our life 350-miles away to a rural settlement in Argyll. We had talked about retiring to Scotland, but with life being so unpredictable we fought our usual reserving instincts and just went for it.
I still work my full-time day job in the Higher Education (HE) sector, albeit remotely for most of the time. I have worked since completing my PhD in 2016. I have also attempted many ways of expressing my creativity, including running a small online interiors business and for some time furniture painting. For various reasons, these hobbies have taken a back burner. So writing snippets of life is taking its place.
My interests include (pretty much) anything Scotland (and particularly Scottish Highlands), reading, cooking (and eating in particular!), walking, interiors and gardens. So expect a little bit of all of this smushed into these little blogs.
What to expect From Keeper’s Cottage.
I’m a bit of a ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’. This is purely my creative outlet, where I can share snippets of life and our adventures. There won’t be much in the way of advice (certainly not advice I’d recommend you take!) but hopefully there’ll be enough to keep you entertained while you take a wee pause and coffee break.
Of course, if there’s thing you want to hear about, drop me an email!
